Harford Senior Outing Club

Exercise isn't the only way to better health in our golden years.

We also go picking for fruits and vegetables when they are in season.

Did you know cherries are a natural anti-inflammatory for arthritis?

Just 20 cherries a day can take the pain and inflammation away.

Janice shows you how it's done...

while Susan displays her pickings...

and Anita...gets the last of Shaw's cherries for the season.

We didn't forget the blueberries...how could anything so yummy be so full of antioxidants for heart health ?

Check back later to see the other crops we'll be picking this season.  We pick veggies, too....pea picking is done...beans are coming next in the background.

Fresh is best, freezing is excellent for vitamin retention and canning is a possibility, too if you lack freezer space.

Have we peaked your curiosity?  Learn and share what you know about food, nutrition and holistic remedies, when, where and how to pick the best produce...and how to freeze, dehydrate and can the food you pick with the more experienced members of our group.

We make trips to local and not-so-local farms by car-pooling.  By getting an early start, taking brown-bag lunches to enjoy under a shade tree after we've picked and eaten our fill we get back home in plenty of time to start processing what we've picked.

It's loads of fun getting healthy with the new friends we make.
